Time for Provincial Status
Quetta Division, with a population of 4.26 million and an area of 14,559 km², is larger than over 120 countries in population and 40 in land area. Despite serving as Balochistan’s primary administrative, commercial, and trade center, it faces persistent poverty, acute infrastructural deficits, and chronic public service neglect, receiving a disproportionately low share of provincial development funding. Around 28.5% of its population lives below the poverty line, 45.7% of children are out of school, over 80% lacks functional access to basic healthcare, and over 6,500 crime cases are reported annually. Experts believe that granting provincial status could be a game-changer, ensuring fair representation, improved governance, and balanced development.
